XRP Ledger 3.2.1 Goes Live to Tame Unknown Manifests as XRPL Closes In on 500K New Accounts in 2026’s First Half

XRP Ledger Rolls Out Critical 3.2.1 Upgrade as Adoption Hits Record High The XRP Ledger has rolled out version 3.2.1, a critical security and stability update following an unusual validator manifest flood detected on July 31. Despite the incident, the network continued processing transactions and closing ledgers without interruption, underscoring the resilience of its infrastructure. According to XRP Ledger Operations, the issue arose because nodes accepted, stored, and re-broadcast an unlimited number of validator manifests linked to unknown validator keys. While the event posed no risk to consensus or transaction integrity, it unnecessarily consumed node memory, storage, and bandwidth. Why is Version 3.2.1 a game-changer? Well, it introduces four safeguards to prevent similar abuse. The update rejects oversized manifests, limits incoming manifest batches, caps the number of manifests shared during peer connections, and restricts the cache to 100 unknown validator keys. Unknown manifests are also no longer written to disk, preventing them from persisting after a node restart. As a result, node operators are encouraged to upgrade immediately, allow the server to run for one to two minutes, then perform a second restart to fully clear any previously stored unknown manifests. XRP Ledger 3.2.1 Arrives Amid Record Growth and Rising Institutional Demand The release comes as the XRP Ledger continues to expand despite a difficult market. In the first half of 2026, the network added 489,739 new accounts , growing from 7.91 million to 8.40 million before surpassing 8.42 million in July, a new all-time high. Notably, this growth occurred while XRP's price fell about 41%, signaling that network adoption continued independently of market performance. Other on-chain metrics point to strengthening fundamentals. XRP balances on exchanges have dropped to a seven-year low, tightening available supply, while spot XRP ETFs have attracted roughly $1.49 billion in cumulative inflows, reflecting sustained institutional demand. Ripple has also launched Ripple Mint , enabling enterprises to issue and manage RLUSD, its U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin. Institutional adoption is also broadening beyond payments. Insurance giant Aviva has chosen the XRP Ledger for a tokenized liquidity fund, reinforcing the network's growing role in real-world asset (RWA) tokenization. Furthermore, developers are bringing tokenized shares of companies including Tesla, NVIDIA, and SpaceX to the XRPL, while XRP and RLUSD are increasingly powering AI agent payments through emerging blockchain infrastructure. More than a routine maintenance release, XRP Ledger 3.2.1 highlights the network's ability to respond swiftly to operational challenges without disrupting service. Coupled with record account growth, rising institutional participation, expanding tokenization, and new enterprise financial products, the update further strengthens the XRP Ledger's position as a leading blockchain for tokenized assets and next-generation global payments.
