Palo Alto Revenue Jumps 34% as AI Security ARR Hits $9.1B, but PANW Falls

Palo Alto Networks delivered stronger-than-expected fiscal fourth-quarter results as artificial intelligence continues to drive cybersecurity demand, but investors still pushed PANW lower after an initial rally. Revenue climbed 34% year over year to $3.41 billion, while adjusted earnings reached $1.02 per share. Next-Generation Security annual recurring revenue jumped 63% to $9.10 billion, and remaining performance obligations increased 34% to $21.2 billion, according to the company’s earnings release . PANW initially rose after the results before reversing course, creating an important contrast between strong operating momentum and increasingly demanding investor expectations. AI Is Becoming Palo Alto’s Main Growth Engine CEO Nikesh Arora has positioned AI as both a cybersecurity threat and a major opportunity. Palo Alto added nearly $1 billion of net new NGS ARR in Q4 alone, pushing the business to $9.1 billion as it works toward a $20 billion NGS ARR target by fiscal 2030. The trend fits a much broader cybersecurity shift. AI is lowering the cost and complexity of sophisticated attacks, increasing demand for automated security systems. Coinpaper recently examined the growing AI cyberattack threat, while the U.S. has also placed AI security near the center of its national cybersecurity strategy. Palo Alto’s platformization strategy is also gaining traction, with around 220 new platform deals added during the quarter. Palo Alto Adds Another AI Acquisition Alongside earnings, Palo Alto announced the acquisition of Console, an AI-native platform designed to automate enterprise workflows. The technology is expected to integrate with Cortex, allowing AI agents to investigate alerts, prioritize security events and automate remediation. That expands Palo Alto beyond its traditional firewall business and deeper into autonomous cybersecurity, identity and observability. The company is effectively trying to become the security platform that sits underneath an increasingly AI-driven enterprise environment. That theme has also benefited rivals. Coinpaper recently covered CrowdStrike’s record ARR growth, showing that cybersecurity spending remains resilient across the sector. Strong Guidance Still Wasn’t Enough For fiscal 2027, Palo Alto expects revenue of $14.10 billion to $14.20 billion, with NGS ARR forecast at $11.075 billion to $11.175 billion. Those numbers suggest AI-driven security demand remains strong. The problem is that PANW investors may already be pricing in much of that growth. After a substantial stock rally, the market is increasingly focused on organic growth, acquisition dependence and free-cash-flow expansion rather than simply whether Palo Alto can beat quarterly estimates. That makes the stock reaction more revealing than the earnings beat itself. Palo Alto’s results show that AI cybersecurity demand is accelerating. PANW’s reversal shows that investors now expect the company to convert that demand into consistently exceptional growth.
