Bybit appoints Sean Ballard as Head of Derivatives and Institutional Business

Bybit has appointed Sean Ballard as Head of Derivatives and Institutional Business. According to the company, Ballard will focus on its trading infrastructure, risk frameworks and institutional capabilities, with responsibilities spanning trading risk and exchange technology. Ballard has more than 25 years of experience in global financial markets, including derivatives, high-frequency trading, trading risk, market structure and exchange technology. He joins Bybit from Jump Trading, where he led the firm's high-frequency futures trading business across the US, EMEA and LATAM. At Jump Trading, Ballard managed investment portfolios and worked with exchanges and regulators on market structure, trading performance and infrastructure developments. While at Jump Trading, Ballard was also a senior trader on the firm's Jump Crypto team, where he managed trading initiatives across centralized exchanges and led strategic partnership efforts focused on ecosystem growth. At Bybit, Ballard will focus on institutional trading infrastructure, risk management and product development. The company said his experience across traditional finance and digital assets will support its efforts to develop infrastructure for institutional participation in digital asset markets. The appointment comes as Bybit continues to expand its derivatives and institutional trading business. Bybit Institutional has added services including Bank Triparty arrangements, which allow institutions to manage counterparty risk through regulated custody while retaining access to trading services. The business has also introduced a Market Maker Gateway aimed at high-frequency and quantitative trading clients. According to Bybit, the gateway has reduced round-trip latency from 4 milliseconds to 1.5 milliseconds. Bybit has also expanded its real-world asset (RWA) offering through Bybit RWA Earn, which provides access to tokenized financial products. Since July 2026, FUIDL by Finloop, an AAA-rated USD money market fund, has been available on Bybit as collateral for trading. According to the company, the offering forms part of an end-to-end RWA ecosystem in Asia. The appointment is part of Bybit's broader strategy to develop what it calls the “New Financial Platform,” bringing together crypto assets, traditional financial markets and real-world financial services through a unified platform.
